1.0.0 - The Contrived Excuse For A Post-Jam Update To Improve The Game A Little Bit
Somehow, this game came in 9th place overall in the So Bad It’s Good Jam, which was very unexpected.
So, to celebrate, based on some of the feedback I received from everyone else who participated in the jam, I’ve decided to get off my backside to not only update this game, but also announce the update (it’s amazing what can be achieved via the power of procrastination)!
Anywho, instead of beating around the bush for much longer, I’ll just mention the major changes in version 1.0.0:
- Endless mode high scores should now keep track of what version of the game they were achieved on.
- Removed the Optimal Strategy.
- In the previous version, it was very easy to win the game if you just kept the door closed constantly (only ever opening it to shut up Percival).
- Now, after ~40 seconds, if the door is kept closed for Some Time when the door doesn’t need to be closed (such as when nobody is near you/nobody has just been banished from the hallway outside your office), things will start getting harder.
- The intro text has also been updated to say that the door should only be closed when absolutely necessary.
- Made the controls less painful to use.
- You can use the sideways arrows to swap cameras/turn around!
- You can always press ‘up’ to show the cameras (as long as the door isn’t being held closed ofc)
- clunk is gone
- The intro text has been updated to reflect this improvement.
- There’s even controller “support”
- in theory at least, idk if it actually works
- You will start on camera 6 instead of camera 1.
- Tweaked the enemy movement behaviours a little bit
- They’ll now be more likely to move if the door is currently held closed, and if they’re just about to start an attack (so there’s less waiting around for them to be told to go away).
- Ke’in’s movement logic has been slightly updated.
- If he’s getting up close and personal with your cameras, try giving him the same treatment that he’s giving you.
- Enemies will try (and fail) to move a little bit sooner when you’re looking at them.
- Just try not to run out of camera power whilst waiting for them to fail their movement attempts.
- Tortelvis now appears as intended
- Enemy movement chances will passively increase a tiny bit every so often, instead of only when the Intruder moves.
- speen
And yes, the game is a bit harder now (but a lot less boring!), ensuring that you, the player, will recieve the intended intense experience. It’s still possible to survive for the same Unspecified Period Of Time, even if it’s now a bit harder than before. Yes, you almost definitely will lose a few times now. But trial and error is part of the learning process. Don’t let it discourage you, but use it to motivate you to try harder to be able to brag about your eventual defeat of this game!
